Reverse Sneezing
Let's talk about reverse sneezing. First, see your vet, because chronic reverse sneezing can be a collapsing trachea, a foreign body in the nose, or even a nasal tumor. Get it checked once to rule out the scary stuff.
Step one: when an episode hits, stay calm. The dog is not choking. Step two: gently massage the throat or briefly cover the nostrils.
It makes the dog swallow, which ends the spasm. Step three: cold air and excited greetings are common triggers. Manage them.
Step four: track frequency. Once a month is no big deal. Daily is a vet conversation.
Step five: be the leader, be the alpha. Your calm is contagious. The dog mirrors your breathing.
Now you have a tool, not a panic attack, when the snort starts. Now, the deeper fix: reverse sneezing looks terrifying and is almost always harmless. Stay calm, end the spasm, move on.
Now here's Steve's notes.
